haven't done a post in a while

i cannot stress how much i adore the song Boy Lilikoi by Jónsi, who is the guitarist and vocalist for the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. in Icelandic Sigur translates to “Victory” and Rós to “Rose”. woowoo. i am pretty much obsessed with iceland and icelandic bands, so i plan to go there in my gap year. COME WITH.
Jónsi and his boyfriend Alex Somers have completed an album together; 'Riceboy Sleeps' (with appearances of Amiina, woowoo) and the Kópavogsdætur choir. it is okay. i wouldn't buy it, it's relaxing but slightly boring, whereas múm is more relaxing but really really amazing and nice.
aannnyyywayyy, Jónsi's album 'Go' is out in March 2010. if the other songs are anything as good as this then i cannot wait.

french kissing french guys

even though they are dead, i wanted to share Cap Santé!, the lo-fi indie band from Scotland. errrm. they shout a lot. they're pretty good and they've recorded and released a free demo “Wampeters, Foma & Granfalloons” which can downloaded from the band’s myspace or HERE.

JAPANDROIDS. they're just the best thing. but i broke my other headphones so i have to wear those gay big man headphones that go round yr head, and i play my music pretty loud, so everyone i walk past can hear it too. especially when i play this band cause its really loud...
download the first song off their album here: The Boys Are Leaving Town
or their album here (click on the artwork for the link...) but seriously. download them now

plus they are so cute, i fucking love beard guys

fanfarlo

i saw this band at Loop Festival in Brighton, unknown to their music but having their album 'Reservoir' on my itunes nevertheless. however, on the leaflet it said 'Fanfario' and on posters it said 'Fanfarlo' so i was really confused and didn't know if there was actually a band called 'Fanfario' playing aswell (and it wasn't my eyes playing tricks, i have proof!).

anyway, Fanfarlo, well known for their combination of trumpets, mandolins and violins with guitars and drums, are from London and were formed by the Swedish musician Simon Balthazar.
i would say if you like Arcade Fire, Beirut, or even Neutral Milk Hotel then you will most definitely like this band.

this is what they look like:

and this is what they sound like (although i highly recommend buying or downloading their album):

OOIOO (apparently pronounced "oh oh eye oh oh")

if you like Japanese women shouting and screaming and/or Boredoms, then you will probably like this all-female group which was founded by the drummer of Boredoms: Yoshimi P-We (oh how i want that name). oh, and they sound quite like Boredoms, just toned down a bit and containing a bigger range of instrumental sounds and textures. OOIOO are renowned for their tribal chants, bird calls and screaming. enjoy!

some bands i found on myspace a while ago...

Planet Earth
i don't know much about this band, but i do know that they have been spotted sharing stages with artists such as Laura Marling, Jay Jay Pistolet, Jeffrey Lewis, SoKo, Peter and the Wolf and Johnny Flynn. they also supported Noah and the Whale on their UK tour in Autumn 2008. their music is mostly acoustic with added various obscure instruments, but really happy and summery and you should most definitely download the following song:

François and the Atlas Mountains
based in Bristol, is François and the Atlas Mountains. François plays the guitar, casio keyboard, piano, singing, harmonica, and the Atlas Mountains = Tom Bugs on trombone and drums, Rachael Dadd on clarinet, glockenspiel and melodica, Rory Pilgrim on harp and clarinet, Georges Mckenzie on saxophone, recorder and toy trumpet, Rozi Plain on baby accordion, typewriter and acoustic guitar, Victor Ladybird on acoustic guitar, keyboard, toy trumpet and recorder, Matt Jones on double bass, Kate Wright on the piano, keyboard and acoustic guitar, Tom Cops on the ukulele, Matthiew Arctic Circle on the keyboard and guitar, Rose Clark on the drums, Luq Arnault on the bass, guitar and drums and finally Amaury Ranger on the bass, guitar and drums.
so thats a pretty HUIGE band. annnyway, their music is so relaxing and all french-sounding which makes you want to get a bike with a basket on the front fill it with hand-picked fruit from an orchard. so listen.
also you should check out some of François' artwork (like below) on his myspace: http://www.myspace.com/francoisinbristol

and this is what they sound like:

Ray Rumours And The No-Eyed Deers

Ray Rumours is a musician from London who also plays in Sisisi Sisisi Sisi and Electrelane and has done various split EPs with other bands such as François. their music is very tranquil and cute. fin.

Kotki Dwa

hailing from Milton Keynes and Aylesbury, are Kotki Dwa (= Alex Ostrowski, his brother Tristan and Tom Walker). they have been like my favourite band (amongst 5 other bands...but hey! who said i'm only allowed one favourite band?) ever since i discovered them a couple years ago, and i now happily own their self-produced album, EP's and singles...and i even have a kotki dwa t-shirt (how mental is that - it's also way too big so i'm gradually shrinking it) so i thought it was about time to tell you about them.
Kotki Dwa's music; somewhat twee, yet catchy-in a-non-annoying-way makes their guitar riffs stick in your mind peacefully all day and adorable lyrics making you want to write them on the walls and pavement using chalk + crayons. they remind me slightly of Pull Tiger Tail, but mixed together with cutesy electronic sounds, jitters and tweets of robotic birds being fed rainbows and sugar free playdoh being pushed through a synthesizer.
they're pretty much a big deal.

aaannndd, this is what they look like (but i'm guessing they don't dress up as robots everyday? who knows...):

and this is what they sound like:

also, this is their music video for their single Robin's Clogs...and it's so cool...etoile etoile etoile

The Long Lost + Daedelus

The Long Lost is husband + wife Alfred Weisberg-Roberts (also known as Daedelus) and Laura Darlington, therefore Daedelus = Alfred Weisberg-Roberts. The Long Lost appears more delicate and electro-acoustic when in contrast to the avant-electronics and hip-hop aesthetics of Daedelus. both artists music are pleasingly fragmented and contain a wide range of instruments.

this is what The Long Lost look like (srsly, i want that womans hair! and that guys uke...also the guy is Daedelus):

and this is what they sound like:

Seabear

Seabear are an Icelandic indie-folk band from Reykjavik, Iceland (if because of the previous post you think i am obsessed with Icelandic bands - i'm not). although coming from Iceland, they sing mostly in English. Seabear started as a one-man band and then it turned into a band when Sindri was asked to open for The Books in Berlin. as he had never performed his songs live, he consequently asked two of his friends, Guggý and Örn Ingi, to join him. they had so much fun playing live and practicing that they decided to join the band. also the names of the band members are pretty awesome: Sindri, Örn Ingi, Guggy, Inga, Kjartan, Dóri, and Sóley.

i couldn't decide on ONE song to put up so here's a couple...although you should seriously think about buying their album: The Ghost That Carried Us Away. it's brillianté!

and this is what they look like - equally indie and folky as they sound:

i love my múm

i do love my múm (although it's pronounced “moom,” which ruins my little play on words there). múm is an experimental Icelandic band; their music renowned for it's combination of tranquil vocals, quirky beats and amiable sounds. they are one of my favourite bands everrrrr, winning me over with their debut album Yesterday Was Dramatic - Today Is OK. HOWEVER, every album is AMAZING (it really is - i am not one to exaggerate).  they are also lovely people. i went to see them in Cardiff and we kindof followed them...

this is what they look like (not sure why they're in a shower room, but hey! alternative!):

this is what they sound like (when they sing i mean. i'm not linking you to an mp3 of them just talking or breathing (in order of my favourite-ness)):
Dancing Behind My Eyelids
Green Grass Of Tunnel
A Little Bit, Sometimes
The Smell Of Today Is Sweet Like Breastmilk In The Wind
